UMTS Handover event 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 2e, 2f explained

  • Event 2a: Change of Best Frequency.
  • Event 2b: The estimated quality of the currently used frequency is below a certain threshold and the estimated quality of a non-used frequency is above a certain threshold.
  • Event 2c: The estimated quality of a non-used frequency is above a certain threshold.
  • Event 2d: The estimated quality of the currently used frequency is below a certain threshold.
  • Event 2e: The estimated quality of a non-used frequency is below a certain threshold.
  • Event 2f: The estimated quality of the currently used frequency is above a certain threshold.

  3. Hi can you please elaborate the event 2f a little bit more. I want to know what action a UMTS UTRAN will take on receiving event 2f from UE. My concern is regarding handover.

    1. When an event 2F received from the UE, NodeB will stop scanning and exit the compressed mode. In other words, when event 2F is received, UE is returning to good coverage area and stops measurement reporting in compressed mode. Please let me know if you have any more questions
